What Is Arbonne International?

Based in Switzerland, Arbonne is an MLM company that specializes in manufacturing health and beauty products.

Peter Mørck founded this company in 1975. Throughout the 40+ years in the business, they’ve expanded their business over seven countries, including the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Poland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

In 2019, they brought in $672M revenue, and they’ve ranked at #19 on the DSN’s 2020 Global 100 list of top MLM companies in the world based on their past year revenue.

As there’s a saying goes, “Never Judge A Book By Its Cover.”

Everything seems spectacular on the surface, so let’s dig into the untold truths of Arbonne International…

Arbonne International Product Line

Although Arbonne has a wide range of products, they’re still most known for its skincare products.

According to them, their products are all clinically-tested, and they use botanical ingredients that are harmless to human skin.

Plus, they even have a strict product manufacturing policy to the point that they’ve got a list of 2,000 banned ingredients.

For your reference, the major categories of Arbonne market products are:

  • Skincare (Flagship products)
  • Bath & body
  • Haircare
  • Cosmetics
  • Fragrances and
  • Nutrition

You can shop for their products here.

Customer Feedback on Arbonne International

After I checked into Arbonne’s profile on Better Business Bureau (BBB), it seems like there’s no serious issue with Arbonne’s products.

The reviews are mostly about the problematic automatic payment.

Here’re some screenshots of the reviews I captured on BBB:

These customers are complaining about the same thing. They said that they never buy a single product on Arbonne or sign up for their recurring membership. But somehow they’ve been charged for money without any valid reason.

Apparently, there’s a big “bug” in Arbonne’s auto-payment system, which they’ve to fix it ASAP to improve their customer shopping experience.

How To Join Arbonne International And Make Money?

As you might know, most MLM companies make their compensation plan sophisticated and hard-to-understand than solving Rubik’s cube blindfolded. Arbonne International has no different here.

I’ll try my best to summarize everything and show you how you can take part in their MLM program and make money.

Here’s an image showing the overall process.
How you can make money with MLM

1. The Joining Fee

In most cases, you need to pay for a joining fee or pay a starter kit before you can be the sales rep of an MLM company.

To join Arbonne International, you’re required to purchase their Independent Consultant Starter Kit priced at $79.

Once you signed up, you will get 35% off on the retail price as a member.

But the starter kit is not the end. You’re required to pay for a $30 renewal fee annually

Moreover, the starter kit will only provide some necessary business and marketing kit, but not included retail products. It’s your responsibility to buy the products with your own money and sell them to retail customers.

That means the startup cost can easily add up to hundreds or even thousands of dollars in your first year with Arbonne.

2. Make Money WIth Arbonne Compensation Plan

As I’ve mentioned earlier, for some reason, most MLM companies are making their compensation plan very complicated.

Hence, there’s no point in going into every detail of the Arbonne compensation plan as that’ll bore you and “put you to sleep faster than a sloth on Ambien.”

To keep things simple for your better understanding, I’ll only briefly explain the main ways you can make money with the company.

Overall, there’re 4 main ways you can make an income out of Arbonne International.

On top of that, there’s a monthly order requirement that you need to achieve to qualify for commissions.

1. Retail Commission

You can earn a percentage of commission up to 35% every time you sell a product to a retail customer.

2. Residual Commission

Residual commissions in Arbonne are paid out using a modified uni-level compensation structure, as shown in the figure below.

MLM Unilevel Compensation Structure
How much residual commission you can earn is depending on how big is your downline team.

The bigger your network, the higher you’ll be ranked on their MLM leader board. And hence, the more commissions you’ll be qualified to earn, up to 6 levels deep.
3. Car Bonus

Arbonne will reward the high-ranked leaders a one-year least of white Mercedez-Benz.

What’s funny about this is they’re just renting the car for one year.

Most MLM companies I’ve reviewed before offering considerable car allowance or even dream car rewards to the high-achievers.

4. Cash Bonuses

Arbonne has other cash bonuses that you can earn when you move up to higher ranking, and achieve the target team sales or personal sales set by the company.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand what I’m trying to explain. You can watch the video explanation below for clearer insight.

But I think the things you should concern are the reasons why don’t I recommended Arbonne International to any newbies who want to learn to make money online, which I’ll be going into more in-depth in the next section.

3 Reasons Why I Don't Recommend Arbonne International

1. Expensive Startup Cost

If you choose to join Arbonne, your minimum startup cost in the first year could be up to thousands of dollars, which I think is quite expensive.

This could also be the downside of member recruiting as not everyone can afford such pricy startup costs.

2. 90% of People Make Below Minimum Wage

Earning with MLM is rarely a good idea.

As you might know, only people who get started early have higher chances to make it big in the MLM program.

The 2018 Arbonne’s income disclosure below is the evidence to support my claim:

What is Arbonne international - 2018 Arbonne's income disclosure

As I’ve highlighted for you, you can see that 90% of people are making below monthly minimum wage after further divide the $3,851 into 12 months, which is only $321/month.

This can be the extra pocket money to help you pay your monthly bills, but it’s definitely not enough for you to quit your day job while still be able to support your family living

3. Competitive Niche

To be honest, the products that Arbonne offers are prevalent among MLM companies.

The health and beauty niche they’re in is competitive because their direct competitors consist of many MLM “heavyweights” like Purium, Melaleuca, Pure Haven Essentials, and Monat Global.

So, why waste your time on such things in such a saturated market?

What Do I Like About Arbonne International?

Excellent Company Background

Arbonne International is a well-established company that has been in the business for more than 40 years

They’re not only accredited by BBB, and also rated as “A+” by them. If you’re familiar with BBB, you’ll know how hard it is to get a good rating on BBB, let alone get the accreditation from them.

Here’s the screenshot of their profile on BBB:

What is Arbonne international - Arbonne's BBB rating

This can prove that Arbonne International did a great job of providing excellent customer service, or they don’t receive many complaints.

Additionally, Arbonne International is also a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA), which proves it’s not a Ponzi scheme that tries to scam your hard-earned money.

So, Is Arbonne International A Scam?

No. Arbonne is a legit MLM company that accredited by both BBB and DSA.

Arbonne sells high-quality retail products, and they also laid out every detail of their compensation plan for your reference.

If it’s a scam, it should be shut down by FTC a long time ago.

Although I say it’s legit, it’s not the best business opportunity that I can recommend because of the low success rate in the MLM industry and the competitive niche that Arbonne is in.

Even if I say so, the choice is still yours. There’re no right and wrong answers for you to decide which business model you want to get involved.

It’s better for you to do some planning and calculation in advance to see if that business opportunity is worth your time and money.

You Deserve A Better Opportunity

Kudos to you! You’ve just read 1800+ words and still counting. If you make it this far, I commend your commitment.

Meanwhile, I can also feel how serious you’re when it comes to finding a proper way to make money from home.

As you might know, MLM is a flawed business model.

For sure, there’re still people who make a good amount of money with MLM. But it often represents a tiny group of people who joined the program early.

That said, it’s challenging for people who’re BOPs (bottom-of-pyramid) to make some serious dough because they’re running out of people to “recruit”.

MLM Unilevel Compensation Structure

Instead, Affiliate Marketing is my top recommended business model for anyone to make money from home.

The reason is simple…

Advantage 1: No Recruitment Needed

  • You don’t need to “chase” after people and talk them into MLM opportunity where most people lose money.

Advantage 2: Freedom of Choice

  • You can promote any products you love and not be restricted only to promote the products from one MLM company.

Advantage 3: Low Startup Cost

  • Unlike MLM, where you’ll need to pay a pricy introductory fee to join, it takes little to no startup cost to kickstart your entrepreneurial journey in Affiliate Marketing.

You might think I’m biased, but I’m just telling the truths…

  1. Great information buddy, it is good to know that Arbonne is a typical health and beauty company that specializes in manufacturing organic-based products. I am fine to this point but the fact that they also provide MLM program for people to make money by selling their products through recruiting members sounds like scum to me. Glad I know about it now in case someones brings it to my attention some day.

    1. I agree with what you’ve said Teri. I’m also not a big fan of MLM, not because it’s illegal or not profitable, but because of all the restrictions and the expensive costs involved.

Instead, Affiliate Marketing is my top recommended business model for anyone to make money online.

  2. Hello Zac, nice to be on your website reading what you have here about this platform. I first heard about it from a friend but I didn’t know how it works or so much about it. I am happy to see your post here where you give good information on it and tell how it works. Because I don’t like MLM platforms, I don’t think I will be doing this. Thanks though.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Henderson.

Indeed, I also don’t recommend beginners who wants to make money online to choose MLM as their career. This business has too many downsides.

  3. Hi there, Another MLM Opportunity eh?  I’m sure there may be genuine MLM opportunities out there however it seems the people at the top make all the money and the under layers do all the work.  Beauty and skincare is a huge niche these days and people seem to flock to get in on that niche.  I am so grateful for your honest appraisal.  Cheers
