After understanding how to get started with Usana, it’s time to get into more detail of the “make money” side of things…
How Do You Make Money With Usana Health Sciences?

As yet, there’re 6 ways to earn commissions with Usana. Let me list them out for your information.
1) Retail Sales
You buy the products at a discounted price and resell them to customers to earn retail profits.
2) Weekly Commissions
This is the commission you can redeem every week with a certain amount of “points” that accumulated through the sales and recruitment made by your downline team.
3) Lifetime Matching Bonus
MLM is all about helping.Â
If you’re able to assist your downlines in reaching a certain goal within a given period, they’ll be able to earn a special rank known as “Premier PaceSetter” or “Premier Platinum.
At the same time, you’ll be qualified to earn an additional percentage of commission from the sales of these downlines as long as they’re with Usana.
4) Incentives
Once you reach a certain rank on their MLM leaderboard, you’ll be rewarded with luxury travel, prizes, and privileges through Usana’s generous incentive programs and contests.
5) Leadership Bonus
Usana reserves 3% of its commissionable sales volume and divided among the high achiever every week.
If you achieve the Gold Director’s rank or higher, you’ll be qualified to get a slice of this big pie.
6) Elite Bonus
This is something like Leadership Bonus, but it’s even more!
Each quarter, 1% of the total company commissionable sales volume is divided among the Top 60 income earners of the previous quarter.
The higher you ranked, the bigger “the slice of the pie” you shall receive.
You probably confused by the compensation plan right now. But don’t worry if you don’t understand what I am trying to explain.Â
All in all, there’re only 2 things you need to do after becoming Usana’s associate:
- Sell products and recruit people for commissions.
- Train your downlines to do the same.
And now you might be asking whether you can choose to make commission only through selling their products or not, without recruiting people.
My answer is Yes. But you’ve to understand that the ideal way to succeed in MLM business is to form a downline team that can branch out your circle and maximizes your earning potential.Â
That’s why it’s called Multi-Level Marketing.Â

Pros
1) Scientific-Proven Products
I think the earlier chapters have explained very well on how great is the products offered by Usana.
Dr. Myron Wentz has teamed up with a group of professional scientists, and they’re highly particular about cellular nutrition.
ConsumerLab.com even tested Usana’s nutritional products in 2011, and they’re passed.Â
In order to pass, they needed to follow strict pharmaceutical guidelines, FDA guidelines, and not contain toxic trace chemicals like lead.
Hence, I think it’s safe to say that their products are scientific-proven to give you better health by nourishing the cells in your body.
2) No Stockpiling
Once you signed up to be their salesperson, you’ll be given every needed marketing tool to run a successful MLM business, and this includes a personalized website.
With this website, you don’t need to stockpile the products for selling.Â
Whenever there’s a customer who wants to buy from you, you just need to give them your link and have them order through Usana’s system.
In order words, Usana will take care of everything for you. You just need to sell and recruit.
3) Well-Established Company
Usana is a well-respected publicly-traded company that has been in the business for almost 30 years (since 1992).
In 2013, Usana voted “Best Company In Network Marketing” by MLM Insider Online.
They were also recognized as one of the top companies in the industry in several other categories, including:
- Best Compensation PlansÂ
- Best Weight Loss CompaniesÂ
- Best Personal Care CompaniesÂ
- Best Nutritional CompaniesÂ
- Best Technology CompaniesÂ
- Best Generic TrainersÂ
Whereas in 2018, Usana was named one of “America’s Most Trustworthy Public Companies” by TGF Analytics. And they also ranked 4th among small/mid-cap companies with an A+ rating.
There must be a reason for a company to stay that long in such a competitive industry, and I believe one of them is because of their excellent reputation in public.
I also checked the growth of their revenue over the past few years with the data given on Direct Selling News, and I found that they have huge and rapidly growing revenue.
Here’s the graph that I personally created to show you Usana revenue growth from 2009 to 2018:

Meanwhile, I’ve just searched on Google Trends and found out that the public interests toward Usana Health Sciences are quite stable over the past five years.

Obviously, all these data are telling us this company has a steady growth every year, which is a great sign for both consumers and investors.
4) Affordable Startup Cost
Running Usana MLM business is not like starting a brick-and-mortar business that would risk your life savings.
At Usana, you just need to pay $29.95, and you’re already running an actual business that could bring you an incredible ROI if you work super duper hard!
Cons
1) Monthly Fee to Stay Active
At Usana, you’re forced into autoship that requires you to purchase a certain amount of products every month to stay active for receiving commissions.
This will cost you another extra $110 – $130 per month.
2) Success Rate Is Rare At Usana
This is the big one. Because of this, I can’t recommend Usana MLM opportunity to anyone who wants to make money from home.
Let me illustrate further.
Please take a look at the table below. It’s the 2017 income disclosure I obtained from Usana official website (I can’t find the updated one).

As you can see from the data, among those 38,239 active Usana associates in the United States, only 0.4% earned more than $61,372 in 2017.
Do you know why I am emphasizing that $61,372?Â
It’s because that’s the exact number of the average US household income in 2017, and I get it from the United States Census Bureau, as shown in the figure below.

In other words, there’re 99.6% earn less than minimum wage in 2017. Most associates couldn’t manage to make enough money to cover their investments.
This is not only happening in Usana, but almost every MLM company has the similar issue.
You might already know that the top earners in an MLM program are basically those who create the program and TOPPs (top-of-pyramid) who get into the network way earlier than you.
There’s a study by FTC on 350 MLM companies, and the result showing that 99% of people that join MLMs lose money.
And guess what? I can tell you that most of them are the people who at the bottom of the pyramid.
Here’s the screenshot of the FTC report, proving that I am not lying to you.

So, Is Usana Health Sciences A Scam?

You Deserve A Better Opportunity
Kudos to you! You’ve just read 2500+ words and still counting. If you make it this far, I commend your commitment.
Meanwhile, I can also feel how serious you’re when it comes to finding a proper way to make money from home.
MLM is great.Â
I am also not saying that people can’t make a decent living with MLM. But it often represents a tiny group of people who joined the program early.
That said, it’s challenging for people who’re BOPs (bottom-of-pyramid) to make some serious dough because they’re running out of people to “recruit”.

Instead, Affiliate Marketing is my top recommended business model for anyone to make money from home.
The reason is simple…
Advantage 1: No Recruitment Needed
- You don’t need to “chase” after people and talk them into MLM opportunity where most people lose money.
Advantage 2: Freedom of Choice
- You can promote any products you love and not be restricted only to promote the products from one MLM company.
Advantage 3: Low Startup Cost
- Unlike MLM, where you’ll need to pay a pricy introductory fee to join, it takes little to no startup cost to kickstart your entrepreneurial journey in Affiliate Marketing.
You might think I’m biased, but I’m just telling the truths…

6 thoughts on “Facts About Usana Health Sciences Scam: Is It Truly A Fraud?”
Great review, Phua. I already heard about the benefit of their products and actualy intersted to take part in their MLM business, since my cousin asked me. 99% of people who joined MLM lose their money, this is a new fact that I discovered. I’m glad it’s not a scam, but I think I will pass this opportunity. Thank you very much
It’s my pleasure to be able to help you, my friend! Thanks for your recognition, too.
I like the fact that you started the article with the most important thing which is telling people not to be a part of such a scam. Usana is a rip off and it’ll be a regretful thing to see people fall in their trap. Personally, I hate MLM model businesses because it is always hard for people to make money from it. Thanks for this eye opener.
I appreciate your comment, my friend But I think that you’ve misunderstood the content.
I claimed that Usana is not a scam but a well-established company with amazing products.
I recommend people to try out their products, but not their MLM program because of the several downsides stated in the article.
This is not a bad platform in any way and I will like to give it a try because your review here reveals a whole lot about it that I didn’t know before now. Thank to you, now I understand how this works. This one shows to be a very big and bad scam that anyone should not trust or even give a try at all. I think it will be best if I just steer clear of this usana helath platform.
Hey, Payton, thanks for your comment. I am glad to hear that you’re able to get values from my article.
