What is Somaderm?

Most people think that Somaderm is a company or a big brand in the beauty niche as it’s more well-known than it’s manufacturer.

Actually, Somaderm is the flagship product of a Utah-based beauty MLM company called New U Life that specializes in developing anti-aging products.

Alexy Goldstein founded the company in November 2017. According to him, New U Life is a fast-growing company with over 100k of distributors worldwide.

Moreover, their distributors had sold over half-a-million bottles of Somaderm anti-aging gel in its first year of business and helped the company brings in more than $60 million in sales in the past 2 years.

His claims seem impressive, but I not sure whether his statements are factual or not.

Facebook Review Page

Is Somaderm A Scam - Customer reviews on New U Life, as seen on Facebook.
As you can see, the customer reviews are quite good, as on their BBB profile and FB review page
But, you should note that their distributors are actually the people who left most of these reviews, and I’ve got proof to support my claim.
Please take a look at the screenshot below. It is showing you the number of customer complaints that have been filed over the past 4 years.

As you can see, New U Life has received 136 customer complaints in the past 4 years on BBB. After further calculation, this company is getting about 2~3 customer complaints every single month.

Clearly, the number of customer complaints they’re getting is in contrast with their “excellent” customer reviews.

That’s why I reckon the star rating is not entirely organic because these reviews are most probably commented by those distributors.

For sure, I’m not the only one that suspects the authenticity of the customer reviews.

Several people have the same thoughts as mine, and here’re some of the relevant comments I obtained from BBB to prove my words.

Can You Make Money With Somaderm?

Yes, you can make money by marketing Somaderm. But first, you’ve to join New U Life (their parent company) MLM program before you’re approved to sell it.
As you might know, most MLM companies make their compensation plan sophisticated and hard-to-understand than solving a Rubik’s cube blindfolded. New U Life has no different here.
I’ll try my best to summarize everything and show you how you can participate in their MLM program and make money.
Here’s an image showing the overall process.
How you can make money with MLM

1. Getting Started – The Joining Fee

Just like I said, you need to pay for a joining fee or pay a starter kit before you can be the sales rep of an MLM company in most cases.

New U Life has got 3 options for you to choose in order to become their sales rep.

Basic Membership – $199, this option comes with one bottle of Somaderm gel.

Pro Membership – $699, this option comes with 6 bottles of Somaderm gel.

Executive Membership – $899, this option comes with 8 bottles of Somaderm gel.

2. Make Money

As I’ve mentioned earlier, for some reason, most MLM companies are making their compensation plan very complicated.

Hence, there’s no point in going into every detail of the New U Life compensation plan as that’ll bore you and “put you to sleep faster than a sloth on Ambien.”

To keep things simple for your better understanding, I’ll only briefly explain the main ways you can make money with the company.

Overall, there’re 5 main ways you can make an income out of New U Life.

i. Retail Commission

You can earn a retail commission every you’re making sales by selling Somaderm gels to retail customers.

The more they bought, the more you can earn (up to $520).

ii. Recruitment Commission

Whenever you get new leads and recruit them as your downlines successfully, you’ll get paid for up to $120.

The commission is depending on which membership packages they bought. And here’re the commission rates:

A new member enrolled with the Basic membership package: You get $20.

A new member enrolled with the Pro membership package: You get $60.

A new member enrolled with the Executive membership package: You get $120

iii. Team Commission/Residual Commission

Once you’ve built a big downline team, you can earn a percentage of commission from your downlines’ sales and recruitments.

This commission is paid out via a binary compensation structure, as shown in the figure below.

Binary Compensation Structure
iv. Matching Bonus

To be honest, I’m not too sure what this commission is about.

Based on their compensation plan, this commission is paid out via a unilevel compensation structure up to 7 levels deep, as shown in the figure below.

Unilevel Compensation Structure
The percentage of commission is between 5% to 15%.
How much you can earn is depending on your ranking on their MLM leader board. The higher your ranking, the more commissions you’ll be qualified to earn.
v. Car Bonus

Once you’ve reached a certain high rank, the company will reward you with a car bonus of up to $1500/month. This is something like a car allowance.

It’s Confusing! I Know.

Don’t be too worry if you don’t understand what I am trying to explain.

In fact, this is not the most crucial part.

I think you should put all your concern in the coming chapter, which I’ll be explaining why I don’t recommend this business opportunity.

3. Build A Reliable Team & Earn Commissions

The last thing you should do is try your very best to recruit as many people as possible to build a reliable downline team and earn commissions.

And now you might be asking whether you can choose to make commission only through selling their product or not, without recruiting people.

My answer is Yes. But, you’ve to understand that the ideal way to succeed in MLM business is to form a downline team that can branch out your circle and maximizes your earning potential.

That’s why it’s called Multi-Level Marketing

If you’re a shy and introverted person who hates face-to-face selling like me, and you also not comfortable with making new friends. MLM might not be a great choice for you.

If that’s the case, I suggest you give Affiliate Marketing a shot. To me, it’s the ultimate way for beginners who want to learn to make money online and turn their passion into real money.

Compared to other business models like MLM, dropshipping, and Amazon FBA. Affiliate Marketing is more beginner-friendly, and it takes almost zero cost to get started [oh ya, and it also requires ZERO talent & prior experience 🙂 ].

Likewise, your income is highly reliable on your downline team in MLM. If they don’t sell, you won’t earn a dime. But in affiliate marketing, you’ve got the 100% control on your income.

3 Reasons Why I Don't Recommend Somaderm Business Opportunity

1. The Product Might Have Side Effects

Among those negative reviews and customer complaints on BBB, I’ve noticed some of them are complaining about the same thing.

Namely, they’re complaining the product is not working or the product has side effects because they’ve suffered some skin issues after applying the gel.

Here’s one of the relevant comment I captured on BBB:

Is Somaderm A Scam - Customer complaining the product has side effects. They've suffered some skin issues after applying the gel.
To me, this is simply unacceptable. I mean, if I am the customer who’s paying hundreds for the anti-aging gel, shouldn’t I deserve to get the best result after using it?
If the product is not suitable for certain kinds of skin, they should state it on their sales page to avoid the consumers from wasting money on a product that’s not working for them.

2. You Could Go To Jail If You Sell Their Products

There’s actually a law in the USA that prohibits the use of HGH. And FDA has explained very clear here:

Distributing human growth hormone to customers in the United States without the order of a physician is in direct violation of Section 303(e) of the FD&C Act [21 USC § 333(e)] and may be punishable by up to 10 years in prison and applicable fines. “

Yes, you might be arrested by the cops if you market the HGH products without permission or authorized certification from the regulatory agency.

In other words, New U Life is “using” their distributors to boost sales, and putting them at risk because most of them are just ordinary people who don’t have a medical background.

3. Low Income Potential

We all know that to reap the maximum benefits in MLM industry, we’ve to be one of the the TOPPs (top-of-pyramid) who get into a certain MLM program when they’re just starting out.

Earning with MLM is rarely a good idea unless you’re one of the TOPPs (top-of-pyramid).

To support my claim, here’s a screenshot of the New U Life’s income disclosure in 2018

There’s a fine print below the table that reveals how low their earning potential is.

They stated that “Only 4.1% of Distributors earned more than $600.00, with many of the 95.9% earning $0.”

What a pathetic amount! And I can guarantee the 4.1 % of distributors are actually those TOPPs.

Thus, if you decide to join their MLM program, I advise you don’t do that because you might end up wasting your time and money.

What Do I Like About Somaderm?

Fake company’s claims, questionable products, low earning potential, people might end up losing money & go to jail…

Quite frankly, unlike the other health & wellness companies like Melaleuca and Purium. I don’t think there’s something great worth mentioning for this MLM company.

This company doesn’t have any unique selling points that caught my attention besides the numerous downsides.

So, Is Somaderm A SCAM?

Now comes to the most crucial verdict: Is Somaderm A SCAM?

I can make a definite judgment to say that Somaderm and New U Life is a scam, but that doesn’t mean it’s legitimate either.

They do provide the retail product for the distributors to sell, and they also laid out every detail of their compensation plan for your reference.

However, there’re too many red flags on their products, making it looks like a potential scam.

That’s why I won’t recommend this skeptical money-making opportunity for anyone. My guess is you’ll do the same, too.

You Deserve A Better Opportunity

Kudos to you! You’ve just read 2100+ words and still counting. If you make it this far, I commend your commitment.

Meanwhile, I can also feel how serious you’re when it comes to finding a proper way to make money from home.

As you might know, MLM is a flawed business model.

For sure, there’re still people who make a good amount of money with MLM. But it often represents a tiny group of people who joined the program early.

That said, it’s challenging for people who’re BOPs (bottom-of-pyramid) to make some serious dough because they’re running out of people to “recruit”.

MLM Unilevel Compensation Structure

Instead, Affiliate Marketing is my top recommended business model for anyone to make money from home.

The reason is simple…

Advantage 1: No Recruitment Needed

  • You don’t need to “chase” after people and talk them into MLM opportunity where most people lose money.

Advantage 2: Freedom of Choice

  • You can promote any products you love and not be restricted only to promote the products from one MLM company.

Advantage 3: Low Startup Cost

  • Unlike MLM, where you’ll need to pay a pricy introductory fee to join, it takes little to no startup cost to kickstart your entrepreneurial journey in Affiliate Marketing.

You might think I’m biased, but I’m just telling the truths…

  1. Thanks for the extremely detailed review and the MLM endorsement from Somaderm. Yesterday I saw on TV a scandal in our country about acne products. The one who made recommendations (in the office but also on social networking sites) pretended to be a dermatologist and was in fact a pharmacist. Today there are many who try to deceive the world for money. I’m not surprised that Somaderm has a lot of red flags.

    1. Thanks for sharing your experience, Carmen. I’m pretty sure it will raise people’s awareness in avoiding such potential scam.

  2. hello dear, thanks for these wonderful review i am really glad i got to see these post, i was actually doing some research online when i saw you post on Somaderm, saw some reviews on it online but wasnt sure if it was legit or not, but  after bgoing through your post i believe i know what step to take thanks for the info

  3. I take it from your comments that this product contains human growth hormone. There is a reason that stuff is banned, it’s really not good for you, and that in itself, I would think, should steer people away from buying the product, let alone selling it. Would you say that the company is hiding their use of HGH and the fact that it is a controlled substance from its distributers, because that would be really bad. Although, I have to say, 2-3 customer complaints a month doesn’t actually sound that bad to me for a large cosmetics company. Most highly rated Amazon products have about that same average negative review. Am I missing something? How many complaints would you say a company can have before it crosses the line?
