Most people would say email marketing is phasing out. Well, that’s a half-truth.
Email marketing is still working. It’s just not as effective as it was in the late 90s when the open rates could be up to 90%.
Today’s average email open rates are somewhere between 15% – 25% and click-through rates sit somewhere around 2.5%.
If email marketing is dying, I wonder why there’re still so many big companies giving away free stuff (lead magnet) to collect emails.
Make sense, right?
Make money by just sending emails is not only possible, but it could be extremely profitable if you do it the right way.

Why Would Email Marketing Profitable?
There’s a saying in the internet marketing space:
“The money is in the (email) list.”
Most digital marketing experts would probably agree with this saying. Let me show you why, with some facts and stats from different studies:
- Email marketing has an ROI of 3800%.
- 66% of customers purchased after receiving an email marketing message — which is more than social and direct mail.
- Customers who received multiple abandoned cart emails are 2.4 times more likely to complete the purchase.
Literally, you could earn $1 per email subscriber per month, which means the size and the relationship of the email list that you have will determine your monthly income.
If you would like to make an extra $1000/month, you need to build a list of 1000 email subscribers, giving them values through the email newsletter, and promote them something they need once in a while.
I will show a practical guide in a second. But first, let’s see the common ways you can utilize to monetize your email list.
2 Primary Ways To Make Money With Email Marketing
Whether you’re in online or offline (traditional) business, there’re just 2 core ways to make money. It’s either you sell your own products, or you promote other people’s products. Simple.
Under these 2 monetizations, they’re fractionated in many different ways. Let’s take a look at the common ones.
Sell Your Own Products
This could be selling your ebook, online courses, training guides, private virtual coaching sessions, or anything you could dream of.
Other than that, you can create premium content for your subscribers if you’ve hands-on knowledge that they want to learn, and charging them a small monthly recurring fee.
If you treat these members well, they will follow you for life, which could be a significant source of passive income.
Promote Other People’s Products
1) Affiliate Marketing
If you choose affiliate marketing to monetize your email list, here is just a shortlist of things you don’t have to take care of:
- No own product to create and maintain.
- No product brand building to handle.
- No online shop to handle.
- No storage of items to manage.
- No shipping to handle.
- No customer service to handle.
- No technical issues to manage.
- No additional staff necessary.
Your role as an Affiliate Marketer is to give buyers valuable guidance along his way to purchase.
In other words, your job is to provide useful information to problem-aware customers and refer them to a trustworthy solution.
The deal of products/services is only happening between the vendor and the buyer, without your direct involvement.
Every sale you generate for your partnered vendor will be tracked via your affiliate link, and you’ll get paid with a commission with no extra cost applied to the buyer.
2) Drop shipping
If you ever search about “make money online” stuff on Google or YouTube, I’m sure you’ll see tons of gurus or YouTubers teaching people how to drop ship other people’s products.
Indeed, this business model has an explosive growth over the past 5 years, and it even outranges Affiliate Marketing massively.
Compared to Affiliate Marketing, drop shipping is more beginner-friendly because you’ll be driving traffic with paid ads, so you don’t need to worry about content creation.
Also, drop shipping could be scaled very FAST if you know how to run ad campaigns profitably.
Besides using paid ads, you could build an email list and get repeat sales from your existing customers with email marketing.
3) Drop Servicing
This is a relatively new business model that starts getting traction in recent years. It works pretty much like drop shipping, but instead of selling physical products, you’ll be offering services ONLY.
From the diagram above, you can see that your job in drop servicing is to market the high demand services at a reasonable price point.
Whenever you get the sales, you need to outsource it to a freelancer or an expert in the field.
Sites like Fiverr, Freelancer, and UpWork are the great places where you can find cheap services to resell on your store.
Once they get the job done, the freelancer will deliver the order straight to the client.
Again, just like drop shipping, you could build an email list and get repeat sales from your existing customers with email marketing.
If you wish to learn more about drop servicing, the new trend in the online business world, here’s a great video explanation from the ecom expert – Biaheza.
4) Solo Ads
Solo ads are advertisements on other people’s email lists in which your product/service is the only thing being advertised in that email.
These ads have links to drive traffic to your website or sales funnel.
Contrary, if you own a big email list with at least 2,500 subscribers, you can be a seller on Udimi – the biggest solo ads marketplace.
Step-by-Step Guide To Make Money By Sending Emails
As I said, you could make $1 per subscriber. If you take time to grow your list, you could earn $500/day, $1000/day, or even $10,000/day sending emails.
Now, I know that might sound ridiculous (even though it’s possible), especially if you’re new to this.
So let’s talk about something that achievable to most people => Make $100/day sending emails.
I am gonna show you how to utilize email marketing infused with Affiliate Marketing and make $100 conservatively.
Why Affiliate Marketing? You might ask.
Well, it’s because there’re tons of affiliate programs out there, and all of them are FREE to join. You’ll definitely find the one that suits your niche.
Most importantly, you don’t need to create your own products and stockpiling. So there’ll be no issue of “deadstock”.
Step #1: Pick A Niche
For the sake of people who don’t know what a “Niche” means, you can think of it as choosing your interest, passion, or something that you would like to learn about.
When choosing a niche that fits you, you should ask yourself the following questions:
- How passionate am I in that niche?
- How profitable could the niche be?
- Is there a lot of competition in the niche?
I understand this might sound vague to you. You can check out the post HERE to learn more about choosing a profitable niche that you genuinely love.
Step #2: Choose A Relevant Affiliate Product
According to SmartBlogger.com, the top affiliate marketplace that you could source the product are encompassed:
- CJ Affiliate (formerly Commission Junction)
- Amazon Associates
- eBay Partner Network (EPN)
- Rakuten Marketing (formerly LinkShare)
I am not a big fan of Amazon Associates and EPN because their commission rates are relatively low. But their advantage is they have a HUGE library of products for you to choose from.
Digital products often have higher commission rates. And Clickbank is the second-to-none platform that sells digital products. Some of them offer a commission of up to 80% per sales!
Quick tip here => When choosing a good affiliate product that fits the niche market. I will ALWAYS go for the digital product with high commission and recurring fees.
It’s a great way to build a Passive Income stream because you’ll be getting paid as long as your referrals keep using the product.
Step #3: Choose A Channel
There’re many ways to do Affiliate Marketing. Blogging is one of the best ways to generate leads online.
However, you may try out YouTube or podcast if writing is not your forte.
In case you want to see the result faster, utilizing paid ads strategy is the only way, which I don’t recommend if you aren’t experienced in running ad campaigns.
Step #4: Build An Compelling Opt-In Page
An opt-in page (a.k.a Squeeze page) is a single landing page to capture the leads and grow your email list.
Creating an opt-in page is quite easy with ConvertKit, as they’ve numerous templates that you can customize.
In order for the web visitors to give you their emails, you have to offer them something valuable for free.
Think about it – Are you going to give someone your email for nothing in return? Of course not, neither of anybody else.
Step #5: Keyword Research
As far as keyword research, I cannot stress it enough, because it plays a pivotal role in whether or not your content would get better rankings on the search engines.
Ideally, you want to find a long-tail keyword with a high search volume and low competition, so that your content could be ranked faster.
You can research the keywords with the free tool Jaaxy. It’s the keyword research tool that I use the most.
Jaaxy will provide lots of helpful information about the seed keyword you entered and other related search queries, as shown in the figure below.
Understanding the terms used in Jaaxy.
Keyword: A phrase that users type into search engines to find what they’re looking for.
Avg: The average number of searches that the keyword receives per month.
Traffic: The estimated traffic you will get if you achieve first-page rankings in the search engines.
QSR: Known as Quoted Search Results, this is the number of competing websites ranked in Google for this exact keyword.
KQI: Keyword Quality Indicator. It’ll show you a green “Great” sign if the keyword is good for creating a high-ranking content.
SEO: A score based on traffic and competition. The higher the score, the more likely you’ll rank for this keyword on the first page.

Step #6: Create Keyword-Rich Content With Intent
After you’ve found a good keyword, the next thing you should do is creating content around that particular keyword.
The aim of your content should be to engage, help, and inform people while getting them to take action by placing the CTA (call-to-action) at the sweet spots.
This actionable task could be:
- Joining your email list
- Reading another post on your site
- Buying something
- Filling out a survey
- Leaving a comment
- Sharing your content
In this case, we’ll be asking people to join our email list.
Step #7: Develop A Great Rapport
Once visitors signed up on your mailing list, it’s time for you to develop a great rapport with them.
You can send them value emails regularly to direct them to your new blog post/YouTube video/podcast episode.
That being said, you’re actually in a business of HELP, and selling comes the second.
If they see that your free value blew their minds, it’s easier to promote your core affiliate product to them because you already earned their trust.
The Guide Above Is Actually Teaching You How To Leveraging Sales Funnel To Maximize The Returns From Email Marketing
A Sales Funnel is the designed sales process that your potential consumers go through before making a purchase.
Its goal is often to sell a product or service, but it can also be used to capture leads for further following up with an automated email campaign.
If you implement everything revealed in my guide above, your sales funnel will be something that looks like this:
Traffic: Create keyword-rich content to attract visitors.
Opt-in Page: Offer something valuable to the visitors in exchange for their emails.
Follow-up: “Bombarding” them with tons of values to build rapport.
Merchant Site: Promote your affiliate links once in a while.
