According to Google Trend, people interest in affiliate marketing has reached an all-time high recently:
This isn’t surprising to me because affiliate marketing has been a lucrative and beginner-friendly way to make money online with extremely low barrier entry.
Especially during this COVID-19 virus pandemic where hundreds of millions of people losing their jobs, everybody desperately looks for a way to create a second income source online because they finally realize that only relying on a single income source (9~5 job) is the worst idea.
When you read this sentence, I assumed you already know how affiliate marketing works, so I won’t spend much time explaining the whole concept of the business model.
In this article, I will be focused on telling you how much it will cost you to start an affiliate marketing business.
I’m sure that’s the only thing you are looking for, right? Let’s get started with quick navigation of contents first…

Technically, Affiliate Marketing Doesn't Cost Any Money!
Chances are, you have come across many excellent step-by-step guides that teach you how to do Affiliate Marketing, but most of them require to have a blog/website.
Well, it’s true that if you want to build a successful business in the long run, you need a website, but it’s not necessary.
There are still have people utilizing free platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and podcasts to start their affiliate careers.
You could choose the channel that suits you and produce informative content tied to your affiliate offer.
While it’s possible to get started with affiliate marketing at virtually ZERO cost with those free platforms, you have to understand you are just “renting” other people’s space.
Hence, you are obliged by their rules and regulation to produce your content and promote your affiliate offers appropriately. They could shut down your account anytime if you violated their policy.
That’s why I prefer doing affiliate marketing with blogging. With a blog, you have complete control over your business. You’re the boss who sets the rules of how you are going to promote the products.
Furthermore, running a blog is like building an online real estate that grows in value and can be sold later.
Sometimes, you can easily sell an affiliate website on Flippa for anything up to 40x its average monthly income!
And the best part is that you don’t need to make a big chunk of financial investment running an affiliate marketing blog.
Often successful affiliate marketers could grow their business to 6 or even 7 figures per year with less than $2000 annual maintenance fee.
With all these in mind, let’s see the necessary and optional tools that you will need to run a profitable affiliate marketing blog.

#2: Autoresponder/Email Service Provider
An email service provider (ESP), which also known as an autoresponder, is a tool that allows you to collect people’s email for following up and promote them cool stuff with Email Marketing.
There are many ESP in the market, with ConvertKit being one of the most common and popular ones. This is what I use to build my mailing list, email sequences, and newsletter.
#3: Google Analytics
#4: Google Search Console
Google Analytics and Google Search Console serve different purposes.
The former is to let you understand your audiences better by tracking the data related to those who interacted with your website.
On the other hand, Google Search Console is a tool that allows you to track your website’s performance on the search engine results page (i.e. how well your blog posts ranked on the search engines, the click-through-rate, total impressions, etc.).
Most people use Google Search Console for 3 main reasons:
- Request indexing from Google every time they publish a new web page or blog post to get indexed faster.
- Check for errors on their site.
- Submit a Sitemap for Google to index their website more easily.
Just like Google Analytics, Google Search Console is the free tool that you must have as well. Or else, your website will take a longer time to get traction.
#1: Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool
Jaaxy is my preferred keyword research tool. It provides loads of helpful information about the seed keyword you entered and other related search queries, as shown in the figure below.
This tool saves me lots of time while conducting keyword research by providing me numerous long-tail keywords with a high search volume and low competition in a short period of time.
Jaaxy does provide 30 free keyword searches daily, so if you think that the tool is useful, you can always upgrade to their premium plan later.

Elementor has boldly claimed themselves as “The World’s Leading WordPress Page Builder”. And guess what? I TOTALLY AGREED!
If you like the design of my website or my blog post’s layout, they are all designed with Elementor.
I am not a tech-savvy. But with Elementor’s robust drag & drop editor, it simplified the process of designing a stunning website by eliminating all the guesswork involved in writing code.
Suppose you want to have total control over your website’s appearance, which can’t be done in WordPress editor, Elementor is a great tool that worth your investment.
Your Estimated Expenditure For The First 6 Months
Domain Name + Web Hosting + ConvertKit + Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool + Canva + Elementor
= Free + Free for 6 months + Free for the first 500 email subscribers + Free 30 daily keyword searches + Free + $49/year
= $49 = $8.17/month = $0.27/day
As you can see from the expenditure breakdown above, it clearly shows you that starting an online business is way affordable than you could ever imagine – $0.27/day for the first 6 months, this cost is even cheaper than a cup of Starbucks coffee!
Compared to the traditional “brick and mortar” business, starting an online business is a better choice for a beginner who doesn’t want to risk all their savings.
Even though the resources you get might be restricted, I think the tool listed above is enough for you just to get started and familiarize yourself with it.
You can always upgrade or purchase more advanced tools when your site starts getting traction to help it grows even faster.
So stop finding excuses, and start executing. The best way to gain experience is to learn by doing, not just reading.
